Patrick Royston awarded Stata Journal Editors' Prize 2016
04 Jan 2017
We are delighted to announce that Professor Patrick Royston has been awarded the Stata Journal Editors' Prize 2016.
Patrick is a giant of the Stata community and this award recognises his many contributions. Patrick's primary role at the Unit is to develop statistical methods for medical research, and his methods are typically accompanied by well-written, user-friendly Stata packages. His skill is reflected by the number of his packages that have been naturalised into 'official' Stata. We at the Unit have benefited hugely from this work and heartily agree with the editors' choice.
The specific articles for which the prize is awarded are:
- P Royston. Tools for checking calibration of a Cox model in external validation: Approach based on individual event probabilities. Stata Journal 2014; 14: 738-755
- P Royston. Tools for checking calibration of a Cox model in external validation: Prediction of population-averaged survival curves based on risk groups. Stata Journal 2015; 15: 275-291
- P Royston. Estimating the treatment effect in a clinical trial using difference in restricted mean survival time. Stata Journal 2015; 15: 1098-1117
As one commenter noted, the award could have emphasized an entirely different set of articles and still been justified.
Congratulations to Patrick on behalf of the Unit!
