DART is runner up in Lancet Paper of the Year 2009
23 Jun 2014
We are pleased to announce that the DART paper "Routine versus clinically driven laboratory monitoring of HIV antiretroviral therapy in Africa (DART): a randomised non-inferiority trial" is the runner up in the Lancet Paper of the Year competition.
The DART Trial Team's findings show that effective antiretroviral treatment can be delivered in the absence of intensive laboratory monitoring, and provide insight into how a more pragmatic approach to laboratory monitoring might better support clinical decisions for the care of people with HIV taking anti-HIV drugs in low-income settings.
Commenting on the trial, Andrew Phillips and Joep van Oosterhout congratulated the DART Trial Team for showing that, even in challenging circumstances, excellent trials with high retention rates can be done in Africa.
